Dad used to sing this song (I only heard it a few times, underneath a full moon around a bonfire admisdt a steadliy growing mountain of empty beer bottles.) It was the funniest song I’ve ever heard and it was so rare that he’d sing it that even after 38 years I can only recall the premise and part of the last verse;
T’was late one night beneath the moon
I sat there, quiet and lonely…
and from her grave arose an arm,
her arm, all cold and boney.
I drew up close to whisper, dear ,
I’ll always love you, one and only…
And the words she spake from beyond the grave were,
“Pay my Alimony!”
Dad, I’d wanted for years to get the full lyrics to that song and you’d always laughed and said, “There’s plenty of time for that, son.” And then you left us and took the song with you. Just one more happy memery of you that makes me miss you all the more.
I love you dad, Happy Father’s Day.
